Dr. Zhi-Hui Zhan received the Bachelor’s degree and the Ph. D. degree in Computer Science from Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU), Guangzhou, P. R. China in 2007 and in 2013, respectively. He was a Lecture with the School of Information Science and Techonlogy, SYSU, from 2013-2014, was an Associate Professor with the School of Advanced Computing, SYSU, from 2014-2015, since 2016 is a Professor with the School of Computer Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology (SCUT), and since 2024 is a Professor with the College of Artificial Intelligence, Nankai University (NKU).
His current research interests include artifical intelligence, computational intelligence, evolutionary computation, and swarm intelligence, especially the particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, ant colony optimization, differential evolution, and other optimization algorithms and their applications. He has published over 260 papers in international journals and conference proceedings, including more than 90 IEEE Transactions papers, and more than 20 of them are the Essential Science Indicator (ESI) Hot Paper and Highly Cited Paper. The “Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO)”, the “Orthogonal Learning Particle Swarm Optimization (OLPSO)”, the “Multiple Populations for Multiple Objectives (MPMO)”, and some others are all listed as the Research Fronts of ESI. His published papers have been cited over 17000 times by the scholars all over the world, according to Google Scholar or Google Scholar (for Chinese), and over 10000 times in Web of Science.
Prof. Zhan is an IEEE Fellow. and an AAIA Fellow. He was a recipient of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Outstanding Early Career Award in 2021, the Outstanding Youth Science Foundation from National Natural Science Foundations of China (NSFC) in 2018, and the Wu Wen-Jun Artificial Intelligence Excellent Youth from the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence in 2017. His doctoral dissertation was awarded the IEEE CIS Outstanding Ph. D. Dissertation in 2018, the China Computer Federation (CCF) Outstanding Ph. D. Dissertation in 2013, and Guangdong Province Outstanding Dissertation in 2014. He is the Changjiang Scholar Young Professor and the Pearl River Scholar Young Professor. Prof. Zhan is listed as the Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics, the World’s Top 2% Scientists for both Career-Long Impact and Year Impact in Artificial Intelligence, the World's Top 0.05% Highly Ranked Scholars by ScholarGPS and the Elsevier Most Cited Chinese Researchers in Computer Science.
He is currently the Chair of Membership Development Committee in IEEE Guangzhou Section and the Vice-Chair of IEEE CIS Guangzhou Chapter. He serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation (SCI, JCR-Q1, IF=16.497), the IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence (SCI, JCR-Q1, IF=5.300), the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems, the IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence, the Neurocomputing (SCI, JCR-Q1, IF=5.779), the Memetic Computing (SCI, JCR-Q1, IF=3.577), the Machine Intelligence Research (MIR), and the International Journal of Swarm Intelligence Research (ESCI). He is the Lead Guest Editor of "Trustworthy Machine Learning for Behavioural and Social Computing" in the CAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology and "Advances in Nature-inspired Algorithms and Applicatioins" in the International Journal of Swarm Intelligence Research. He is the regular reviewer of more than 20 IEEE Transactions journals like IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, TNNLS, TSMCS, TAI, TETCI, TPAMI, TITS, TPDS, TIE, TII, and TSC, and many other SCI international journals like IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine, Neurocomputing, Information Sciences, Knowledge-based Systems, Journal of Scheduling, Soft Computing, Natural Computing, and Memetic Computing, and many Chinese journals.
